Former Liberal Democrat, Prof. Richard Grayson*, in a stinging critique of the Liberal Democrats leadership, has compared their logic in coalition to that of Vichy France.
Ouch!
Writing for Compass he says:
“what I cannot accept is that so long as one achieves something in government, a few small things, anything, then any compromise is acceptable when it comes to the big issues. That way lies Vichy France. Instead of achieving compromise, one becomes compromised.”
*Prof. Richard Grayson worked for Liberal Democrats for 5 years as their Director of Policy and twice stood as a parliamentary candidate. He has recently been their Vice-Chair of the party’s Federal Policy Committee. This summer however, he let his membership of party lapse.
