My colleague and friend Mamela accompanied me to visit Haney Ameer (No man is an Island) a few days ago. Here are her words reflecting on the rose garden that remains beautiful on Haney Ameer’s small patch of land outside of his house:
How to Kill Flowers
You can build towers
Cause them great distress
Cut water access
Reduce their showers
Threatened by a knife
Remain delicate
Calm yet intricate
They bare endless strife
Not by death, through life
You can raise a wall
That may never fall
Despite the deadly shade
Beauty does not fade
One bit, not at all
While flowers exist
Nourished by light mist
With strength to endure
Not harmful but pure
They persist to resist
Nice poem with deep symbolism

Very moving, thank you Steve and Mamela! Keep up the good work. Greetings from Zambia – where on our long cay jouneys to visit smallholder farmers trying to find better ways of growing crops, I have been telling people about your observations. It is very new but very powerful information here.
Love
Martin
